Job Summary of Project Management Director:
The role requires strong collaboration across multiple business units, driving strategic objectives, and ensuring high-quality project execution that aligns with organizational goals.
Job Duties and Responsibilities of Project Management Director:
- Lead and oversee a diverse team of project and program managers across various project complexities.
- Manage daily operations, including vendor engagements and resource coordination.
- Develop and execute business objectives for the department with a strategic mindset.
- Participate in senior management discussions to shape strategies, goals, and organizational metrics.
- Demonstrate strong leadership by influencing stakeholders at all organizational levels.
- Plan and manage financial and resource allocations to meet business objectives.
- Resolve issues impacting multiple departments and promote continuous improvement in project delivery.
- Coach and mentor project managers to enhance leadership skills and project management capabilities.
- Ensure timely delivery of projects within scope, budget, and quality standards while holding staff accountable.
- Promote adherence to MassMutual’s project management methodologies, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide portfolio visibility and support for project execution and reporting.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of company products, systems, and operations related to managed projects.
- Collaborate with the Operations Portfolio Lead to support transformation strategy and management reporting.
Qualifications and Experience of Project Management Director:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and expertise.
- Minimum of 3 years in project management leadership roles.
- At least 8 years of project management experience.
- Five or more years of direct experience in Life, Health & Disability new business processes.
- Extensive knowledge of Order Entry Platforms, New Business Workbenches, Underwriting Rules Engines, and automation technologies.
- Familiarity with career and third-party distribution systems.
- Experience with Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven track record of delivering complex, long-term projects on time and within budget.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent preferred.
- Five or more years leading projects impacting the insurance industry.
- Three or more years of experience within a Project Management Office (PMO).
- Over 10 years of project management experience overall.
